The Spinners’ Book of Fiction, a legendary rarity, out of print since the year of its publication (1907), is the culmination of the collective efforts of The Spinners’ Club, a group of young, self-styled, “Bohemian” society women dedicated to literature and the arts. Ina Coolbrith, and Associate Spinner and California’s first poet laureate, was made homeless by the San Francisco earthquake of 1906 which destroyed everything she owned, including her invaluable manuscripts. Coolbrith was then at the height of her fame, much loved in the city, and an integral part of the San Francisco literary scene that included Gertrude Atherton, Jack London, Frank Norris, Mary Austin, Mary Halleck Foote, and Charles Warren Stoddard. The Spinners decided to raise funds for Ina Coolbrith by assembling a collection of short stories and illustrations, and donating all proceeds from its publication to her. A number of America’s most famous writers were associates of the society, including those listed above, and all graciously agreed to contribute without charge some of their best creative works. The result was a beautiful volume, still worthy of the highest praise not only for its design but for the quality of the writing in it.

Condition of book is very good. Dust jacket has a small tear along top of spine and a spot of wear on the front. The cover of the book is clean and unmarked. Binding is strong and intact. Pages are clean and unmarked.
