Our monthly open mic, hosted by Peter Breen, is a celebration of trying new things. Whether you have music, poetry, musings, the back room is a place to share amongst fellow creatives and the shelves of books. Sign ups begin at 6:30 and performances at 7.
This month's open mic features local poet and northeaster Christy Merry. Christy Merry is a native Minnesotan and relatively new Northeast resident with a rich history of participating in the poetry and musical communities in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York before returning to her Minnesota roots in 2010. She has published 3 poetry chapbooks: Land of My Love (2007), Fly Free (2008), and The Year Without You (2009) and is working this year to publish the sequel to the last of these. She writes colorful absurdist landscapes that take the listener on a journey and more concrete work that tells stories both from her perspective and from the perspective of other characters, touching on social issues, relational issues, and struggles with faith, grief and identity. Her hope is that her words will both entertain and build bridges, and that her attempts at vulnerability will help others feel less alone.
